Answers to Frequently Asked Questions:

How old does my dog have to be to come to class?
Dogs can begin training at 10 weeks, as long as their 2 nd set of shots have been completed. (DHPP-2 and Bordetella)

What training methods will be used?
Science-based, positive reinforcement techniques used. All trainers at Sit Stay Obey-Training the Humane Way are behaviorists.

How many dogs will be in the class?
4-5 maximum

What will the classes cover?
Puppy/Beginner Class Curriculum:

*Look to you for direction/Focus
*Solutions for jumping, nipping, chewing
*Enrichment activities to get energy out in non-destructive ways
*Calming activities
*Sit
*Lay down
*Stay
*Come
*Drop it
*Leave it
*Hand targeting – to begin protocol for loose leash walking

Note: As behaviorists, we will touch on behaviors much more than a typical class program, but this is primarily a basic obedience class. For advanced training, excessive barkers, anxious or aggressive dogs, a private session is necessary.

How much does the class cost?
$250/dog for 1:15 hour long classes once per week for 4 weeks. Classes do not meet over holiday weeks.

What If I have to miss a class?
We can arrange for a private session to work around your schedule, for an additional fee.

What are the requirements to attend the class?

*Vaccinations. Dogs must have received 2 nd set of shots, (DHPP -2, Bordetella).
This is typically completed by 10 weeks of age. 

*Dog must be on standard leash (no retractable leashes).

*Keep the dog hungry, hungry for class. Bring their regular food and some small, soft treats.

*Please do not let your dog  go nose-to-nose with another dog in the beginning. This is a dangerous way for dogs to meet and greet. We will talk about why/socialization in class.

*Please carry your pup through the lobby to the elevator or stairs

*Be ready to have FUN! Positive, reinforcement training is not only fun and effective, but a great bonding experience between the dog and family. All members of the family who want to attend are encouraged to come.
