Veterinarian Desensitization – Cooperative Care
Going to the veterinarian is scary for most dogs.
They have no idea that the doctors and staff are trying to help them, not hurt them.
As behaviorists, we play with purpose and teach games to desensitize dogs to syringes, stethoscopes, ear scopes, etc.
If your dog already has issues, and is required to wear a muzzle for vet visits, it’s important to learn how to acclimate your dog to a muzzle in a fun way, in the comfort of their own home. Otherwise, this just becomes one more stressful event for the veterinarian staff and your dog.
While it’s best to start this process as a puppy, please find comfort in that we have been able to help older dogs go from fear and aggression, to comfortable cooperation during vet visits.
Note to Veterinarian Clinics: Sheila is certified to teach veterinarians fear-free and force-free methods, keeping the clinic as stress- free as possible, for you and the animals!
Grooming Desensitization – Cooperative Care
Getting groomed is scary for most dogs. It’s also painful if they have matted areas.
As behaviorists, we play with purpose and teach games to desensitize dogs to brushing, scissors, the noise and vibration of the clippers, as well as the blow dryer.
